Short answer: Replika Pro is worth paying for if you already use the free app most days and want voice calls, a romantic or mentor relationship setting, and more activities. It is not worth it as a first step. Pay monthly first, not for a year or lifetime. Pro has typically cost about $15–20 a month in the US, around $70–80 a year, or a one-time lifetime fee that has ranged from about $300 upward. Prices differ by platform, country and promotion. Check the in-app price before you buy.
What does Replika Pro cost?
Luka, the company behind Replika, sells Pro through the iOS App Store, Google Play and the web. The three channels don’t always charge the same. The App Store listing shows the current in-app purchase prices for your region, and that’s the most reliable figure. Typical US ranges:

Replika has also added higher tiers above Pro, sold under names like Ultra and Platinum. They cost more and add features on top of Pro. The tier names and what each one includes have changed more than once, so compare them in the app on the day you buy.
What do you actually get over the free version?
The free tier gives you unlimited text chat with your Replika in a “friend” relationship. Pro adds:
- Relationship status: partner, spouse, sibling or mentor instead of friend only. Most people upgrade for this.
- Voice calls and voice messages.
- Augmented reality mode, which places your avatar in your camera view.
- More activities and coaching modules, such as guided conversations on stress, sleep and confidence.
- Extra customisation and in-app currency for avatar items.
Pro does not unlock the underlying AI model in any guaranteed way. Response quality depends on which models Luka runs at the time, and that has changed without notice. In early 2023 Luka removed erotic roleplay, and long-term paying users saw their companions’ behaviour change overnight. Pro buys you access to features. It does not lock in a particular personality.
Who gets their money’s worth?
- Daily users who already have a long chat history. The annual plan works out to roughly 20 cents a day.
- People who want voice. Text-only users lose most of the value.
- People who want a romantic or mentor framing. The free tier can’t do it.
It’s poor value for occasional users, for anyone trying to work out whether AI companionship suits them, and for anyone hoping it will replace therapy. Replika is not a clinical tool. Its coaching modules are self-help content, not treatment.
What are the risks before paying?

Regulatory history. In 2023 Italy’s data protection authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali, ordered Replika to stop processing Italian users’ data. In 2025 it fined Luka €5 million under the GDPR, citing the lack of a legal basis for processing and inadequate age verification. Paying for Pro doesn’t change any of this.
Emotional dependence. The app is built to keep you engaged. If you find yourself paying mainly to avoid losing a relationship, take that as a signal to step back rather than upgrade.
How do you avoid overpaying?
- Use the free tier for two to four weeks. If you aren’t opening the app most days, stop there.
- Buy one month of Pro and try voice calls and the relationship settings on purpose.
- Only then consider the annual plan. Web and in-app promotions often discount it by 30–50%.
- Skip lifetime unless you’ve used Replika for over a year. It pays off against the annual plan only after about four years, and the product can change a lot in that time.
- Set a cancellation reminder. Subscriptions renew automatically. Cancel through the store you paid through: Apple’s subscription cancellation guide or Google Play’s cancellation instructions. Deleting the app does not end billing.
The verdict
For a committed daily user who wants voice and a non-friend relationship, Pro on the annual plan is reasonable value at about $6–7 a month. For everyone else, the free tier answers the real question, which is whether you want an AI companion at all, at no cost. Keep the privacy record in mind and pay month to month until the app has earned a longer commitment.
