Network tools are blocked in this session, so I’m writing from established knowledge and citing only Google URLs I’m confident exist (Flow’s about page and app, the I/O 2025 announcements, the Veo model page, the Google AI plans page and SynthID).

To log in to Flow, go to labs.google/fx/tools/flow, click Sign in, and use a personal Google account that is 18 or older and has an active Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra subscription. Free accounts can open the site but cannot generate with Veo 3. Once inside, click New project, pick a Veo 3 model from the dropdown under the prompt box, type a shot description with camera directions, and press the generate arrow. Each clip takes one to three minutes and costs AI credits that reset monthly.

What exactly is Flow, and how does Veo 3 fit in?

Flow is Google’s browser-based AI filmmaking tool, launched at I/O on May 20, 2025 alongside Veo 3. Google describes it on the Flow about page as a tool for crafting cinematic clips and scenes with Veo, Imagen and Gemini working together. Veo 3 is the video model underneath. Its headline change over Veo 2 was native audio: dialogue, ambient sound and effects generated with the picture, as detailed in Google’s I/O 2025 generative media announcement.

Flow is the consumer front end. The same models are also sold through the Gemini API and Vertex AI, which matters if you later want batch generation rather than clicking in a browser.

Which plan do I need, and what do the credits buy?

Flow is bundled into the two paid tiers on the Google AI plans page. Prices and credit allowances have shifted since launch, so treat these as the ranges to expect and confirm on the plans page before paying.

Plan Monthly price (US) AI credits per month Veo 3 access
Google AI Pro $19.99 About 1,000 Veo 3 Fast plus limited Veo 3 Quality
Google AI Ultra $249.99 12,500 at launch, later raised to 25,000 Full Veo 3 Quality, highest daily limits, 1080p

Costs per clip are shown in the model picker before you generate. Expect roughly 20 credits for a Veo 3 Fast clip and roughly 100 for Veo 3 Quality. Credits reset each billing cycle and unused credits do not roll over.

Step-by-step: first login to first clip

  1. Sign in at labs.google/fx/tools/flow with the Google account that carries the subscription. Workspace accounts often fail here because an admin has not enabled Labs; use a personal Gmail if you hit “not available for your account”.
  2. Accept the Labs terms on first launch. Flow is still an experiment, so terms can change without notice.
  3. Create a project. Projects hold your clips, prompts and ingredients. Name them by client and date so you can find them later.
  4. Choose a mode. Text to Video for pure prompts, Frames to Video to animate from a start image (and optionally an end frame), Ingredients to Video to lock a character, prop or location across shots.
  5. Pick the model. Open the settings gear beside the prompt box. The dropdown lists Veo 3 Fast, Veo 3 Quality and older Veo 2 options. Veo 3.1, released October 2025, now sits at the top and adds audio to Frames and Ingredients modes.
  6. Set outputs and aspect ratio. One output per prompt while you are learning. Clips are 8 seconds. 16:9 is default; 9:16 vertical arrived with Veo 3.1.
  7. Generate, then open Scenebuilder to extend a clip, add a shot or trim.

How do I write directions Veo 3 actually follows?

Veo responds best to prompts structured like a shot list, not a story. Write the shot in this order: subject, action, setting, camera, lens and light, then audio in its own sentence.

Example that works: “Medium close-up, a woman in a yellow raincoat steps off a Lisbon tram at dusk. Slow push-in on a 35mm, shallow depth of field, wet streets reflecting neon. She says, quietly: ‘You’re late.’ Ambient tram bell and rain.”

  • Camera verbs it understands: push-in, pull-out, pan left or right, tilt, dolly, crane up, handheld, locked-off, tracking shot, orbit.
  • Dialogue: put lines in quotation marks and name who speaks. Keep it under two short sentences per 8-second clip or the audio truncates.
  • Avoid: stacking three camera moves in one shot, or asking for text on screen. Both fail more often than they succeed.
  • Negative control: state what you do not want in plain words, such as “no subtitles, no slow motion”.

Where does Flow fit in a real production?

At Start Motion Media we use Flow for three jobs: pitch previsualization, B-roll inserts that would otherwise need a travel day, and animated storyboards clients can react to before we book a crew. We do not ship Veo 3 clips as hero footage for brand spots. The 8-second limit, 720p default on Pro, and inconsistent hands and text keep it in the support role.

Every Flow export carries a SynthID watermark, an imperceptible marker Google can detect. Disclose AI-generated shots to clients in writing, because platforms and some advertising codes now require labelling.

Why can’t I log in or generate?

  • “Flow isn’t available in your country”: launch was US-only, then 70-plus countries from late May 2025. The EU and UK gained access later. Check the Veo availability notes and the plans page for your region.
  • Subscribed but still locked: you are signed into a different Google account in the same browser. Open an incognito window and sign in with the paying account only.
  • Daily limit reached: Veo 3 Quality has a per-day cap separate from your credit balance. It resets at midnight Pacific.
  • Stuck at “Generating”: wait five minutes, then refresh. The credit is only deducted when a clip completes.
